A painting is simply an arrangement of paint and colors on a surface. The closer you get to a painting the more it reveals itself as nothing more than paint on a surface. Seen from up close, a magnificent "portrait" by Rembrandt, or a scintillating "landscape" by Monet dissolves into dabs of color on a canvas. In truth, a painting never is what it tries to represent, nor does it represent anything beyond what it is. Any meaning or significance is added entirely by the viewer or the artist.

Painting a painting is simply the act of picking up paint with a tool such as a brush, stick or finger, and placing, flinging or dribbling it onto a surface. If you enjoy engaging in this kind of play, you can call yourself an artist. If, on the other hand, you are just as happy leaving the paint in its container you can get on with your life and find another game to play.

The only difference between an artist / painter and a house painter is $50 and hour.

So what makes a painting "Art"? What makes a painting "Art" is a whole bunch of people agreeing that it is Art. Take away the agreement and the whole game falls apart instantly.

If you love to play with paint and color, or look at paintings, or collect paintings, or live with lots of paintings on your walls, or invest in paintings, then by all means throw yourself heartily into the game!  Come on in, the water is fine!  Everyone is welcome!  Enjoy yourself!  Enjoy the game of Art!  Buy Art !
