In 1961, I self-published "Big Sur, the Land of the Sun and the Moon".
It was a huge success, and a radical breakthrough in the way I worked. My art was finally connected to, and an expression of, my life.
The book is an authentic, one-of-a-kind piece of Folk Art . As a result, I became a passionate devotee of the simple, joyous, happy, delightful openheartedness expressed in the artworks of children and Folk Artists. Over time I integrated those attributes into my art and my life.
I now see everything - people, animals, flowers, cars, houses, etc, as living works of joyous Folk Art.
