While living in France I had many occasions to visit the French
cathedrals. I was especially attracted to, and profoundly moved by
the magnificent stained glass windows in the Chartres Cathedral.
I loved the feeling of light coming through the glass from behind,
giving the rich, deep colors a unique glow as if the colors them-
selves were emitting their own special light. I experienced a
silence and beauty that I've never forgotten.
In painting these panels recently, I realized this experience was
suddenly expressing itself through the medium of acrylic paint.
The colors seemed to glow with their own special light just as the colors did in the Chartres Cathedral. Each painting is an Ode to the Joy of Living inspired by the magnificent Windows of Chartres.
